Overview
The Dreamscape (View Price on Rawganique) is a vegan friendly mattress made with organic U.S.-grown cotton and a natural latex core. As it has no natural fire retardants, or chemical ones, you need a doctor’s prescription to purchase this mattress in anything over a 5” thickness. This prescription must be from a medical doctor (not a chiropractor), and Rawganique suggest it should be written on a prescription note-pad, saying something to the effect of ‘Due to allergies, the patient requires a mattress free of wool’. You can email, fax, or mail it to them.
The Dreamscape is available in Twin, Twin XL, Full/Double, Queen, and Eastern King sizes and several thicknesses: 1.5″, 3″, 5″, 6″, 7″, and 8″. Prices range from $498 to $4,430. They also offer a California King 6″ Mattress (84″ x 72″ x 6″) for $3,543, but not in any other thicknesses. The natural rubber core is 1″ in the massage mats, 2″ in the stowaways, and 3″ in all others. It is a medium firm Dunlop rubber, which is considered a C3 class (equivalent to around a 32-ILD in Talalay). Sadly, it doesn’t seem to have GOLS certification or any other organic or eco-friendly certification.
The combination of a firm natural rubber core sandwiched in layers of soft, fluffy organic cotton makes this mattress soft but stable and supportive. The combination of latex and cotton also offers durability over a cotton-only mattress.
Both the filling and the cover are made of GOTS certified organic US-grown cotton, meaning it is pesticide- and insecticide-free, helping to protect you, your family, the farmers and workers, and the environment.
The same mattress is available with a thin layer of wool, which acts as a natural fire barrier and a natural temperature regulator, in addition to keeping dust mites, mold, and mildew at bay. This mattress, the Wayfarer (View Price on Rawganique), is a little costlier because of the wool, which is procured from small farms in the U.S. The sheep are raised on rotating pastures to prevent overgrazing and resulting erosion, and their wool is completely untreated with chemicals. It is not, however, certified organic.
This mattress has a 6” natural latex core and is approximately 7″ thick overall. The prices are as follows:

This mattress has more cotton filling than most latex mattresses, with the latex layer accounting for just 1″ in the massage mats, 2″ in the stowaways, and 3″ in all others. Prices are as follows:

Rawganique recommend using a slatted bedframe with these mattresses to help with air circulation. They also suggest regularly flipping and airing out your mattress to avoid moisture collecting and to counteract compaction of the cotton batting. Also, to avoid staining and to keep dust mites and other critters out, they offer a woven organic mattress barrier cover (View Price on Rawganique) which can be removed and washed as needed. And, they offer organic mattress toppers (View Price on Rawganique) which offer extra cushioning (ideal for petite sleepers or if you have back problems) and which help prevent moisture from reaching the inside of the main mattress.
Rawganique was founded in 1997 by off-grid homesteaders on Denman Island off the west coast of Canada. They have deliberately stayed small-scale over the last 20 years so as to preserve the integrity of their eco-friendly efforts. The company handcrafts products made with organic cotton, linen, and hemp, and maintains control of the purity and sustainability of their products by growing, weaving, knitting, and sewing most of them right on their homestead. The founders describe themselves as ‘chemically sensitive people’ who use only their own products because they can guarantee their purity.
Rawganique add that ‘vegan’ stamp to some of their products because they can guarantee “Zero animal testing. Zero animal cruelty. Zero slave labor. Zero sweatshop. We never have to test on animals because our organic products come from perfect natural fibers and can’t harm any animal or human!”
Rawganique vs. Naturepedic, Soaring Heart, Plush Beds, and Savvy Rest
Rawganique are an excellent choice for an all-latex mattress if you’re looking specifically for a thinner mattress that can be used as a massage mat, stowaway, or bunk mattress. They offer two latex and cotton mattresses in a range of thickness ranging from just 1.5” to an 8”, including the Dreamer and the Dreamscape mattress. The Dreamer has a layer of wool as a flame barrier and the Dreamscape is vegan-friendly and wool-free, so you’ll need a doctor’s prescription to buy the Dreamscape in a thickness of 5” or more).
The Dreamscape is similar in price to Naturepedic’s EOS Trilux, which is also vegan-friendly. Naturepedic’s EOS Trilux has the advantages of being available without prescription and is customizable thanks to its layers of latex. Rawganique’s Dreamscape is likely a much firmer mattress as it only contains up to a 3” layer of latex even in the 8” thick mattresses, with the rest of the fill comprising organic cotton batting. The same type of construction is used for the Dreamer mattress, where an 8” ranges from $2,265-$4,850. This kind of construction, with more cotton than latex in most models, means more compression will occur over time, so you’ll need to flip your mattress and rotate it regularly as well as give it a shake sometimes.
Rawganique’s Wayfarer mattress is arguably a better option at a better price point if you like a slightly softer mattress that won’t compress quite so much. This one is 7” thick and includes a 6” layer of latex, covered with wool and organic cotton. Prices range from $1,253 for a Twin size to $2,684 for a King size, with all standard sizes available.
Unfortunately, all the other mattress companies I recommend at LeafScore.com offer more robust certifications than Rawganique. So, even though Rawganique are one of my favorite smaller companies, they’re not an especially good option for mattresses. unless, as noted, you’re keen on a slimmer mattress. Even then, Soaring Heart offer a better certified range of shikibutons and thinner mattresses, albeit without a vegan-friendly option.
For a high-quality, budget-friendly, vegan-friendly mattress, you might instead want to consider Plush Beds Natural Bliss vegan mattress (View Price on Plush Beds), which starts at $999 and rises to $2,498. And if you’re happy with the Rawganique Dreamscape price point but want more surety of eco-credentials, choose the Naturepedic EOS Trilux which ranges in price from $2,400 to $4,700.
Rawganique also lack customization options for their mattresses, so are beaten on this front by Obasan, OMI, and Soaring Heart’s Zoned mattress, as well as by Plush Beds (View Prices on Plush Beds), Naturepedic, and My Green Mattress.
The zoned and layered system offered by Obasan, OMI and Soaring Heart’s Zoned Organic Latex mattress lets you rejig the layers and zones to accommodate life changes such as pregnancy, injury, and ageing, or simply switch the mattress around to accommodate another person. These mattresses are, therefore, much more likely to see you through several decades of life (and multiple house guests and more than one partner!), compared to Rawganique’s one-firmness fits all mattresses, making them cost effective long-term.
Of the options just mentioned, OMI have the most robust eco-credentials and are an especially good choice if you have multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) or simply want a high-quality mattress free from toxic chemicals and made with care from sustainably and humanely sourced materials. Obasan only have GOTS and GOLS certifications, while OMI mattresses carry pretty much every certification that matters. OMI mattresses have also been rigorously tested by Consumer Reports and found to be durable and high-performance.
If your budget doesn’t quite stretch to Obasan, OMI, Soaring Heart or Naturepedic, but you still want to buy from a company with a good reputation, Savvy Rest and Plush Beds are very similar for latex mattresses, with Plush Beds the more affordable option. Plush Beds offer an impressive combination of reputation, quality, affordability, customization, and eco-credentials, with Botanical Bliss boasting the rare Eco-Institut certification making it a top choice for a latex mattress after OMI’s collection. The Botanical Bliss (View Price on Plush Beds) starts at $1,099 and rises to $2,898, and, as mentioned, the Natural Bliss (vegan) mattress starts at $999 and rises to $2,498. In comparison, Savvy Rest’s Serenity (View Price on Savvy Rest) ranges in price from $1,999 for a Dunlop Twin to $4,799 for a Talalay Cali King. If you’re under 160 lbs and a solo sleeper, or are buying a mattress for a child, their Tranquility mattress (View Price on Savvy Rest) is one way to save money as it ranges from $1,699 to $3,999. Both companies also offer similar layered customization, so you can choose firmness across three layers and for both sides of the bed.
As for charitable giving and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), Rawganique don’t seem to have this kind of arm to their business endeavors. OMI, Soaring Heart, and Obasan are similar in this regard, while Savvy Rest have a robust charitable giving program and B Corp status (none of the other mattress companies have this currently). Naturepedic are members of 1% for the Planet, at least, although they don’t seem to do much else, while Swiss Dream Beds (a much smaller company) have a 10% charitable giving program. Plush Beds have an eco scholarship and donate to various charitable initiatives.
Savvy Rest are your best option if you’re looking for a particularly oddly shaped mattress, such as a circular mattress, for instance. But, Savvy Rest are rather miserly in terms of their return policy. Unlike most other companies, they just don’t do returns, claiming that to do so would necessitate them spraying their products with toxic chemicals. Rawganqiue have a similar policy for mattresses, which are not returnable unless defective (and you have to report the defect within 10 days!).
In contrast, Plush Beds offer a 100-night money back guarantee if you buy direct from the company (30 days if purchased through other retailers). You can only do this once, however. Obasan offer a 90-day sleep trial and a 20-year limited warranty on all mattresses, as do OMI. However, Obasan also offer a much longer ‘layer exchange’ period; After their 30-night free trial (during which they recommend you don’t move any layers around), they ask that you contact them about any persistent discomfort and offer an exchange of layers within the first 180 days.
Most Naturepedic mattresses come with a limited 20-year warranty including full repair and replacement within the first 10 years and a pro-rated warranty for the remaining ten. Naturepedic have a 90-day sleep trial and ‘comfort exchange’ program for most mattress models but be sure to check details for your particular model before buying and be aware that if you go through another retailer, that retailer’s policy applies instead.

Soaring Heart are also rather miserly in terms of a sleep trial and return policy. They only offer a 30-day comfort trial, which is not a return program and instead extends only to exchanging your chosen mattress for one with a different comfort level. For actual returns due to defects, there appears to be a 30 percent restocking fee and the customer has to pay shipping. They do offer a 20-year limited warranty, however.
